Day #166 - Waterford, NY
Stayed @ Waterford for another day. We rode bikes to explore the surroundings. Got groceries to stock up for the next several days. Bought a 9 day pass and hopefully that will get us through these locks and canals. Weather has been warm and beautiful.

Day #165 - Waterford, NY
Well slow going today....we didn't get the push from the tide because the river current was up from all the rain up north.
Took off around 6:45 am hoping to make the 55 mile trip today to get to the Lock @ Troy and the tie up at the free dock in Waterford, NY, right outside of Lock #2 for the Erie Canal. When we got out of Saugerties harbor, the north winds were kicking up against us but we continued on. Eventually, about 5 hrs. later, the north winds subsided, but our speed did not. It was a beautiful trip because the sun was out and we were under the bimini cover, out of the north winds.
Tried to make it to the Troy Lock by 3:00pm, but we were about 10 minutes later. The "friendly" lockmaster told us that he would be ready in 15 minutes. So Scot did a terrific job waititng outside the gates ready for the green light to let us into the lock. We went "up" about 8 feet and then we were free to go to our next stop for the night. We weren't the only ones in the lock....there was a male and female duck locking through too!

Day #164 - Saugerties, NY
Left our anchorage near West Point around 6:45am. Got to get a early start with the tides and current. It was hazy most of the trip until around noonish. The sun came out and warmed us right up. The scenery was amazing. Someday I hope to post pictures so everyone can enjoy the sights!
We finally anchored, 42 miles later, in Saugerties, small town off the Hudson River. A wise choice to stop here because an 1- 1/2 hrs. later, the clouds started to roll in and then we heard thunder, but thank goodness, no rain.
Cooked BBQ chicken on the grill.....as usual...nothing on TV. So early to bed and early to rise so we can get in another long day tomorrow.......Hoping to get to the start of the Erie Canal in Waterford, NY.

Day #163 - West Point
Well we got back to the boat around 10:30 am and it was not really raining at that time. We were saying goodbye to John G. and Scot ran into a neighbor of ours from Port Sheldon, Bill H. What a small world!
He has a trawler docked at the NY Municipal Marina-79th Street Basin. It was nice to see Bill and Ann, familiar faces in the crowd.
We took off from the dock @ 1:00pm in the pouring rain. We were excited to get in the current and picked up speed. We arrived @ West Point around 7:00pm with no dockage available and no harbormaster to talk to either after calling him all day. Anyway, we found a beautiful anchorage, on the Hudson River, a couple miles north and slept so good after a long day of rain and fog. It was beautiful scenery, but hard to enjoy with all the fog and low clouds.

Day #162 - Morristown, NJ
Staying with our dear friends John and Mandy. Went out to eat at an Irish Pub for Fish and Chips...Yum, Yum! Our boat is docked @ the municipal marina in NY. It was a little choppy trip today with all the water taxis going to and from the Statue Of Liberty.
Did you know that Obama was in NY today too?
It sure feels good to be on land for the night :)
Thanks John and Mandy for your laundry facilities, shopping trip, lodging and dinner.

Day #160 - Statue of Liberty
Wow....what a beautiful day!
We left our bumpy anchorage around 6:15am. Didn't know that people go out fishing at 3:00am!!!! The Atlantic Ocean was pretty calm, sunny and the baby mackerel were jumping. We were so excited to get to Sandy Hook around 10:00ish and the seas were calm that we continued onward. I was so excited to see the Statue Of Liberty....OMG...She's beautiful. We dropped the hook in a designated anchorage off the waterway, behind the statue. You can't anchor directly behind the Statue Of Liberty anymore.
We are so excited to be in a calm anchorage. The trip was very exciting, not worried about water depths on the ocean and hardly any big boat traffic.
Amen....
